WDR Jazzpreis 2024

The WDR Jazz Prize 2024 goes to Caris Hermes and the Bonn Youth Jazz Orchestra. The Jazzfest Bonn will host the award ceremony on March 14, 2024 in the Pantheon, where the award winner will present her music in an exclusive production with the WDR Big Band. Götz Alsmann will lead the evening as moderator.

The winners of the WDR Jazz Prize 2024 have been determined: The winner is bassist Caris Hermes, born in Lippstadt in 1991. Hermes convinced the jury, consisting of partners from the WDR Jazz Prize Production 2024, the WDR 3 Jazz Editorial Team and the WDR Big Band, with her stylistic impartiality, rhythmic agility and joy in playing together. The WDR Jazz Prize for Caris Hermes is endowed with 10,000 euros and is linked to a production with the WDR Big Band.

The WDR Jazz Prize’s young talent award goes to the Bonn Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Thomas Kimmerle and Thomas Heck. The Bonn Youth Jazz Orchestra (will play its award-winning concert on March 14th in the Bonn Pantheon. The WDR is once again focusing on the tireless work of young talent in the field of jazz.

The awarding of the WDR Jazz Prize will take place on March 14, 2024, at 7 p.m., in the Pantheon. The WDR Big Band will perform as part of the award winners’ concert and presenter Götz Alsmann will lead the evening. The WDR Big Band and WDR Jazz Prize winner Caris Hermes will then go on a tour of North Rhine-Westphalia with singer Maika Küster, with concerts in Düren, Wuppertal and Duisburg. Partners of the WDR Jazz Prize 2024 are the Jazzfest Bonn, Jazz We Can Düren, Mercato Jazz and INSEL | Culture in the ADA, Wuppertal.
